Lava Lumbar Pillow

$775.00

This one-of-a-kind pillow showcases traditional motifs from the community of Quiejel in Chichicastenango, where weaving is both an art and a language. Crafted from three intricately woven panels, each created over many hours on the backstrap loom, the design showcases the feathered serpent, a revered deity symbolizing transformation, renewal, and the cyclical nature of time. Along each side, a vertical line nods to the randa stitch, a hand-embroidered technique traditionally used to join two textiles together. The huipiles from this region are among the thickest in Guatemala, a response to the area's cooler mountain climate. While our team curated the color palette, it’s the weavers’ mastery in composing and balancing these hues that brings the piece to life with such beauty and intention.
