Lluvia Lumbar Pillow

$500.00

Lluvia—the Spanish word for rain—honors one of Guatemala’s most vital natural resources. With a six-month rainy season, the land is nourished and sustained, supporting the seasonal crops that many of our weaving partners rely on alongside their craft.

This pillow is composed of three individually woven panels, joined together in the same tradition as the huipil, the handwoven blouse worn by Indigenous Maya women. Like the huipil, each panel is created on a backstrap loom. Two different weaving communities contributed to this piece: Nahualá, known for its intricate brocade technique, and Santa Catarina Palopó, where artisans practice a distinctly different method.

By uniting these diverse techniques into a single design, this pillow becomes a celebration of Guatemala’s rich textile heritage—an homage to both its land and its people.
