Muñeca Large Lumbar Pillow

$575.00

Handwoven by Alirio and his team on a footloom using the intricate falsería technique, this pillow is the result of a thoughtful collaboration between RB Curated and our artisan partners in Guatemala. The refined pattern—called Muñeca, meaning “doll” in Spanish—is inspired by the beloved Muñeca Quita Penas, or Guatemalan worry dolls. Traditionally gifted to ease burdens and bring peace, these dolls are powerful symbols of care, storytelling, and protection. This textile reimagines that tradition through a modern lens, blending cultural heritage with elevated design.

Skilled weavers bring the complex pattern to life using 29 heddles—a process requiring precision and mastery. The pillow is finished with a hand-sewn twisted trim and an innovative tassel developed exclusively for this design. The finishing artisan’s son, who leads the sewing workshop, created this original tassel construction: a series of fine, individual cords intricately twisted into a single bold form.

Each detail reflects a shared vision between artisan and designer—bridging Mayan symbolism with a fresh, contemporary aesthetic. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that carries both emotional resonance and timeless sophistication.
