Olas Fabric By The Yard

$245.00

Handwoven by Alirio and his team, Olas takes its name from the sea, and from the particular magic of Guatemala's Pacific coast, where volcanic black sand beaches meet the rolling weight of the ocean. Guatemala is one of few countries graced with two coastlines, and it is the Pacific that carries this wilder, more elemental character: dark shores, powerful waves, and on the horizon, the silhouettes of volcanoes.

But the name Olas reaches deeper than the surface of the water. In the cosmology of the ancient Maya, the universe was understood to exist on three planes, the heavens above, the earthly world, and below, Xibalbá, the mysterious underworld. The fabric itself seems to embody this vision. As it is woven, it behaves almost as two cloths at once: one flat and grounded in the earthly plane, and one that rises and falls in soft waves above and below it, as though the weave itself is moving between worlds.

The result is a textile of extraordinary texture and dimension, one that is somehow both complex and deeply calming. Our first piece in Olas is a bedroom throw, an invitation to rest, to feel, and to be quietly transported.
